Hotels in the Fichtelgebirge: Relaxation and Comfort
Arrive, check-in, feel good: Those who vacation in the Fichtelgebirge in the northeast of Bavaria will encounter not only a diverse landscape that rises up to 3,280 feet in a horseshoe shape, but also numerous hotels and hosts with heart. Because Franconian hospitality is included everywhere in the Fichtelgebirge. The hotels are all different, but what unites them is the love for guests and the desire for everyone to feel at home on vacation. Whether a spa or health hotel by the lakeside or in the city: We show you a selection of hotels with a feel-good guarantee in the Fichtelgebirge.
Bischofsgrün: 'Hotel Puchtler's Deutscher Adler'
The health spa town of Bischofsgrün is picturesquely situated between the Schneeberg and the Ochsenkopf, the two highest mountains in the Fichtelgebirge. The marketplace is the heart of the town, where just under 2,000 people live. The Puchtler family has been hosting guests here for over 100 years: As early as 1906, they received the license to serve alcohol and ensured hospitality and conviviality in Bischofsgrün. At the end of the 1970s, the popular inn was complemented by the 'Hotel Puchtler's Deutscher Adler'.
Even today, the historic house at the marketplace is a popular meeting point. Thomas Puchtler runs the hotel and the associated restaurant in the sixth generation. In total, there are 35 rooms that were renovated in 2018. The next step followed in 2020: The family expanded the hotel with a wellness area featuring a sauna landscape and vitality department. The reason guests feel comfortable and keep coming back is also because of the restaurant. The menu features regional specialties that use many herbs from the Fichtelgebirge. Because Thomas Puchtler is not only a host but also a certified wild herb chef.
Bad Weißenstadt: 'Siebenquell GesundZeitResort'
If you want to relax your soul and do something for your health during your vacation in the Fichtelgebirge, the 'Siebenquell GesundZeitResort' in Bad Weißenstadt is the right place. Surrounded by meadows and forests, everything here revolves around well-being. The first and only spa hotel in the Fichtelgebirge was opened in 2016. The sulfur thermal water of the spa reaches the surface from almost 6,560 feet deep through pure granite rock. The water has a health-promoting effect and is among the most fluoride-rich in all of Germany.
The hotel offers 124 modern rooms with direct access to the Siebenquell spa, which is open exclusively for hotel guests from 8 to 10 in the morning. Everything revolves around wellness and health over more than 1,076,391 square feet. There are several pools with 93 degrees Fahrenheit warm water in the 'Water World' and nine themed and adventure saunas in the indoor and outdoor areas in the 'Sauna World'. The 'Health Time Journey' is a trip for all the senses. It is a bathing landscape with seven mineral baths from different bathing cultures: from Egypt to Greece to Rome. The Siebenquell GesundZeitResort also offers medical wellness, a fitness studio, a beauty spa, and several restaurants.
Fichtelberg: 'Hotel am Fichtelsee'
North of the community of Fichtelberg lies Fichtelsee, in the midst of the forests between the Ochsenkopf and the Schneeberg. Where today the popular bathing lake attracts many guests, there was once a high moor whose water was used to extract granite stones, process wood, and smelt ore. Over 100 years ago, a rowing boat rental opened on Fichtelsee. Boats still glide over the water today. Above all, the 'Hotel am Fichtelsee' and its associated restaurant are popular excursion destinations.
Those who check into one of the 24 rooms or six suites are vacationing directly on the lakeside and surrounded by a dense forest. Hostess Sabrina Hagen has a close connection to nature. Therefore, sustainability and mindfulness are important in the use of resources at the hotel. The hotel was expanded in 2021. Now, guests can also check into the new forest double rooms and a spacious forest suite just a short walk away.
Bayreuth: 'Hotel Goldener Hirsch'
Anyone looking for a city hotel with a family flair will feel at home in Bayreuth. The Richard Wagner city is the first stop for many vacationers in the Fichtelgebirge. Just a few minutes' walk from the center of Bayreuth and the train station, the Dumproff family welcomes their guests at the 'Hotel Goldener Hirsch'. The privately run city hotel has been owned by the family since 1920. They are also involved throughout the hotel. Warmth and hospitality are a matter of course here.
The historic hotel offers 40 differently sized rooms and two vacation apartments. To keep up with the times, several rooms are renovated every year. The Dumproff family always takes care not to interfere with the building's structure. This way, the character of the building is preserved, but modern accents are added as well. For breakfast, there is a buffet with regional products, and in the evening, Italian cuisine tempts in the 'Restaurant Mediterraneo,' located in the same building.
Marktredwitz: 'Avaneo Hotel'
One of the most extraordinary hotels in the Fichtelgebirge stands on the outskirts of Marktredwitz. The large building looks plain and as if it were made of concrete, but it hides an important message inside. Sascha Kura, Michael Feigl, and Alexander Herold opened the 'Avaneo Hotel Marktredwitz' in early 2019 with a vision: They wanted to run a hotel combining ecology, sustainability, environmental friendliness, energy efficiency, and socially responsible thinking.
The building in an industrial style consists of 70 percent wood from sustainably managed forests. For electricity generation and heating, the house relies on 100 percent eco gas. Anyone staying here is guaranteed a good sleep in one of the 51 rooms. The hosts are passionate about high-quality beds. Therefore, they focus on top-of-the-line sleep comfort and luxury beds from the COCO-MAT brand, made exclusively from natural materials and handcrafted. The public area features a bistro-restaurant and three terraces for dining, relaxing, or working. In addition to breakfast, you can enjoy traditional and Mediterranean dishes.
Bad Weißenstadt: 'Gesundheitshotel Weißenstadt'
Directly on the shores of Lake Weißenstadt, everything revolves around relaxation, well-being, and health at the 'Gesundheitshotel Weißenstadt'. The 4-star hotel combines the comfort of a hotel with a variety of medical therapies, enabling a tailored health and pampering vacation. The motto? The focus is on each guest and their individual health condition!
The 'Kurzentrum Weißenstadt am See' is a state-recognized therapeutic spring operation and offers 73 double rooms, 49 single rooms, and four suites. The therapeutic services range from packs with Freiburg natural fango, physiotherapy, and whirlpool baths to manual and electrophysical treatments. The spacious bathing and sauna area offers a swimming pool with a year-round heated outdoor pool, a whirlpool, a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna, an aroma steam bath, and a salt steam bath. A special feature of the center is the whole-body cryotherapy chamber with minus 166 degrees Fahrenheit and the Radon therapy pool, unique in Germany.
Bad Alexanderbad: 'SOIBELMANNS Hotel Bad Alexandersbad'
In the district of Wunsiedel lies the smallest spa town in Bavaria: Bad Alexanderbad is famous for its spa, the Margrave's Palace from the 18th century, and the Luisenquelle in the spa park. Many vacationers come to Bad Alexanderbad because of the therapeutic springs. Those who focus on wellness and relaxation on vacation should check into the 'SOIBELMANNS Hotel Bad Alexandersbad'. The hotel is just a few meters from the spa park and the spa center on a hill - with a wide view of the spa town.
The building was constructed in 1972. Even today, the charm of the 1970s is noticeable, but it also incorporates many modern elements. The hotel was taken over by the Soibelmanns Group in 2015 and has since been successively and lovingly renovated. There are 114 rooms, a restaurant with regional delicacies, and the 'Bar Alex'. The hotel's offerings provide many feel-good moments: It boasts a swimming pool, a sauna, a Kneipp facility, relaxation rooms, beauty and massage treatments, and sports facilities such as tennis, badminton, and squash.
Bischofsgrün: 'Hotel Kaiseralm'
At the edge of the health spa town of Bischofsgrün stands a large prefab building from the 1970s. Behind its walls is the family-run 'Hotel Kaiseralm', where togetherness is the focus. When the term 'Kaiseralm family' is used here, it doesn't just mean the host family Schreiner but also every single guest. The hotel was opened in 1972. The Schreiner family took over the business in 1992 and purchased it in 2006.
Since then, the family has poured their heart and soul into the house and the feel-good moments for their guests. There are 95 rooms, a swimming pool, a sauna, and massages, as well as a large culinary offering with a generous breakfast buffet, an English-style bar, and a cozy beer lounge. Those who book half-board enjoy regional specialties and also regularly a wonderfully staged show kitchen.
Rehau: 'Hotel Fränkischer Hof'
For over 100 years, a strikingly red-painted building has been a popular meeting point in Rehau. Located at the tri-border region of Bavaria, Saxony, and Bohemia, the 'Hotel Fränkischer Hof' has a long history. As early as 1906, the house received its bar license and attracted guests. Today, the Wachter family runs the hotel, which has grown over the decades and has been remodeled repeatedly. It has been expanded bit by bit, and now there are 34 rooms and a hall for celebrations or weddings.
The goal of the family-run hotel has always been to make guests feel at home. To ensure this, there are many extras with a special twist, such as a laundry room and a wash station for bicycles. For the perfect feel-good moment, the Wachter family has set up the cozy 'Stübchen', which is meant to serve as a living room for all vacationers. It offers hot and cold drinks, a microwave, dishes, and a refrigerator with dishes from the local butcher.
