Anyone who walks along the so-called 'A**hole Trail' will understand why it's named that way. The hiking path in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern might not be difficult, but it's certainly special.

Officially, the trail through the forest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is called the 'Path of Unpleasant People'. However, most people simply refer to it as the 'A**hole Path'.

Those who stroll along the path will encounter various sculptures of well-known figures who do not enjoy the best reputation globally. The hiking trail is part of the property owned by Marita Gronau, who owns the Baltic Sea Manor near Rostock, and she has placed the sculptures in the woods behind her hotel.

Which 'A**holes' can you find along the path?

In total, you will find six sculptures in the forest, as Gronau told the travel reporter. Although there are two more sculptures, they aren't part of the 'A**hole Path'.

The first unpleasant figure placed was the former Russian leader Lenin, followed by George W. Bush, Nikita Khrushchev, Erich Honecker, Turkish President Recep Erdogan, and US President Donald Trump.

There are plans for Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin. However, Gronau mentioned that due to the tense situation, the Polish foundry, where she orders the sculptures, is not currently willing to work on creating a Putin sculpture.

There are also limits, as she has no intention of placing statues of Adolf Hitler or Josef Stalin in her woods. Regarding the nickname 'A**hole Path', Gronau says, 'I know it's not very polite, but it just caught on.'

What should hikers know about the 'A**hole Trail'?

The approximately 0.8-mile-long trail is open to everyone without any entrance fee or set hours. However, Marita Gronau requests that dogs be kept on a leash because many animals call this forest home, and free-running dogs might chase them.

According to Gronau, the best time to hike the path is between April and October, although visitors do come in the winter as well. Regardless of the season, all hikers are welcome to enjoy a piece of cake and a coffee at her manor after their walk.

The hiking trail is located in the small village of Klein Strömkendorf in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, directly on the Baltic Sea. It takes about 40 minutes to drive there from Rostock or Schwerin, and a little over an hour from Lübeck.

The historic estate of Klein Strömkendorf has a long history, first mentioned in the 13th century. The manor house in its current form was built in 1850 and features several suites and apartments. Additionally, the premises include a motorcycle museum and several bungalows available for rent. You can reach the Baltic Sea on foot from there.
