Like all ships of Phoenix Reisen, the Artania represents the 'classic cruise'. It is the largest ship in the fleet and can accommodate 1200 passengers. The Bonn-based tour operator also operates the 'Albatros', the 'Amadea', and the 'Deutschland' on the high seas. At the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven, the Artania was renovated in 2014 for around 40 million euros - the ship is, after all, more than thirty years old. It was baptized as a new build on November 15, 1984, in Southampton by Princess Diana and then went on tour as the 'Royal Princess' for Princess Cruises. Since 2011, it has been sailing for Phoenix Reisen. The onboard entertainment is more subdued, with the most popular meeting point on board being the 'Phoenix Bar' at the stern on deck 4. During brunch and evening barbecue parties, things are more lively. The Artania - just like its sister ship Amadea - has only outside cabins.
