London in 4 days

In this guide to London in 4 days you have several optimised itineraries, on foot or by underground for the most distant points, so that you can get the most out of the city if you have four full days. In the previous 3 days you will have seen many of the city's most popular tourist attractions, including the famous Camden, Covent Garden and Portobello markets, the Soho district and its most important museum, the British Museum.
This guide, like those of the previous days, can be adapted according to your priorities and the time you want to dedicate to each place, although we give you some guidelines that, according to our experience, are perfect for making the most of your time.

Taking advantage of the fact that it is Sunday, on this fourth day you will visit Brick Lane Market, the Tower of London and St. Paul's Cathedral, among other incredible places.
As we mentioned before, this guide to London in 4 days is based on the experience of our last trip to London in 6 days and the one we did a few years ago to London in 10 days.

Tips for travelling to London

This list of tips will help you prepare for your trip to London:

  • All London in four days tours are designed to start at your hotel. Accommodation in central London is very expensive, so a good option is to stay in a hotel a little further away from the centre to save some money, but close enough to an underground station to allow you to get to the main tourist attractions easily. We recommend the two hotels we stayed in that meet this premise: the Garden Court Hotel and the Victor Hotel. For more information you can check this post about where to stay in London.

  • To get to the centre or to your hotel in London from any of its 4 airports: Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, you have several transport options: train, bus, underground, taxi or book the direct transfer to the hotel, the most comfortable and fastest way to make this transfer.

  • If you are going to visit a lot of monuments, it is advisable to consider whether it is cost-effective to buy the London Pass, as you can save money on entrance fees and, above all, time by being able to skip the queues. Another good option is to book the London Explorer Pass, which allows you entry to 3, 5 or 7 of the city's main attractions, skipping the queues and saving up to 40%.

  • Remember that to avoid paying commissions and to always have the current exchange rate we recommend you to use the Revolut card and the N26 card, they are the ones we use, they are free and they will save you a lot of money. You can find more information in this article about the best cards for commission-free travel.

  • If you've seen the films or are a reader of the Harry Potter books, we recommend booking this tour of Warner Studios where the films were filmed or this tour of the sets that inspired J.K. Rowling in London.
For more information about this tour you can check out this guide to visit the Harry Potter Studios in London.

  • When travelling to London, there is nothing better than having a good travel insurance. We always travel insured with Mondowith whom we take a fully adequate insurance for the needs that we are going to have on the trip and just for being a Viajeros Callejeros reader, you get a 5% discount.

The morning of the first day of London in 4 days will start at the famous Piccadilly Circus, and then go down to Trafalgar Square along Regent Street. A stroll through our favourite St. James Park to Buckingham Palace will be the next stop of the day, bearing in mind that at 11.30am the famous Changing of the Guard takes place.
The route continues with a visit to Westminster Abbey, where you can skip the long queues with a London Pass or skip-the-line ticket.
On the way out, from Parliament Square to the end of Westminster Bridge, you have a magnificent view of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, which we recommend you don't miss, as it's well worth it.

For lunch in this area of London, there are several British taverns such as St. Stephen's Tavern and The Red Lion, both of which are among the best places to eat in London.
With your stomach full, you can continue your day in the afternoon by going up to the famous London Ferris Wheel, which you can access without queuing by buying this ticket.
The first day of London in 4 days ends with a sunset stroll along the banks of the Thames to the iconic Tower Bridge, a symbol of the city.
A good option if it is your first visit to the city and you want to know more about its history is to book this guided tour in English that includes the entrance to the most famous places or this free tour, considered one of the best free tours in London.

Second day in London

The second day of the London in four days starts early in the morning, arriving by underground or walking to the beautiful canal area of Little Venice. After strolling around this beautiful area of the city for a while, you can take a boat to Camden Town, which is bustling with people for its famous Camden Market and of course its special atmosphere.
After lunch at one of Camden Market's street stalls you can enjoy the magnificent views from nearby Primrose Hill, the perfect place to relax and unwind. The route continues across the magnificent Regent's Park to Warren Mews Alley, one of the best things to do in London for free.

If you're not tired yet, you can continue the walk to Soho or take the underground, a perfect neighbourhood for strolling, shopping and discovering original cafes and bars. Within the neighbourhood you can't miss Carnaby Street and Chinatown, two of the places we assure you, you won't forget in the city. And as we know that by now your stomach will be calling you, we suggest you go to Honest Burgers to try some of their delicious burgers or go to Hankies Cafe, where you can enjoy delicious Indian cuisine.
And if you still have energy left, in the evening you can take this night tour with an English speaking guide or go to see one of the famous musicals of the city.

Third day in London

On this third day of the guide of what to see in London in 4 days you will start the day with a nice walk through the great Hyde Park, one of the great lungs of the city. After the walk you'll be very close to one of our favourite neighbourhoods, Notting Hill, a perfect time to visit the neighbourhood, especially if it's Saturday, to see its famous Portobello Road street market, one of the best markets in London.
For lunch we recommend the Italian food at the Portobello Garden Café, a perfect restaurant to transport you to Italy from London.

The afternoon will start by taking the underground to the British Museum, one of the most important museums in the world, which we recommend you not to miss for anything in the world. This guided tour in English is perfect to see its most important works and skip the queues, which is very important, especially if you don't have many days in the city.
At sunset, you'll pass through the magical corner of Neal's Yard and then continue your walk to the Covent Garden neighbourhood, with its beautiful covered market, another of the city's must-see attractions. This neighbourhood has a wide range of restaurants including The Oystermen for seafood, the Flat Iron Covent Garden steakhouse or the Shake Shack burgers, perfect for a break and a pleasant evening.

What to see in London in 4 days

On this last day of the London in 4 days you will take advantage of the fact that it is Sunday, the only day it is open, to visit Brick Lane Market, one of the most famous markets in the capital. During the tour of the market and the Shoreditch neighbourhood, as well as the shops and street stalls, you can't miss the impressive graffiti by artists such as Bansky, considered the best graffiti artist in the world.

After grabbing some street food you can walk or take the tube down to the Tower of London, the next stop of the day. The Tower of London is a huge fortress with several buildings including the White Tower, the Medieval Palace, the Royal Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula and the hiding place of the Crown Jewels. Entry is included in the London Pass or you can book this skip the line ticket.
Next to the Tower of London is Tower Bridge, another must-see in London, which we recommend you visit a couple of times, this time to see it by day, as you saw it illuminated on the first day of the London One Day Tour.
Note that you can visit the inside of the tower to learn about its history, as well as to see how the bridge's lifting machine works. You can book your ticket in advance from this page.

After this visit, you'll continue your route, now heading towards the centre, where you'll find a magical spot, St. Dunstan in the East, the ruins of an ancient church with a beautiful garden full of benches, making this the perfect place to spend a relaxing time.
A good option, if the weather is fine as it's a Sunday, is to buy takeaway food and enjoy it here. We're sure you won't be alone in thinking about it, although if you want to eat under cover, we recommend the burger and lobster combination at Burger & Lobster, a restaurant near St Paul's Cathedral that will delight the most demanding palates.
After lunch, the next stop on the 4-day London tour is the cathedral, on the way to which you will pass the Great Fire of London Monument, which is represented by a huge 61-metre stone column.

London's St Paul's Cathedral is the second largest cathedral in the world and is notable for its enormous dome, which is worth climbing to enjoy the breathtaking views. Royal weddings and funerals, such as that of Winston Churchill, have been held here. Bear in mind that the cathedral closes at 16:30, so if you are short of time it is advisable to change the order of visits so that you can do them all during the day. A good option is to book a skip-the-line ticket.
Another alternative if you don't have time or don't feel like doing this visit is to cross the Millennium Bridge and visit the Tate Modern. Note that London's museums are free and this one has a spectacular viewpoint on its terrace.

To finish the route of London in 4 days we recommend entering the beautiful Leadenhall Market, a beautiful Victorian-style covered market, which as a curiosity we will tell you that it appeared in the movie Harry Potter. Here you can stroll around and enjoy a bite to eat or have a drink in one of its many charming shops.

For Harry Potter fans, if you have more time in the city it's worth enjoying the Harry Potter Tour at Warner Studios, where the eight films were made, or the tour of the London locations that inspired J.K. Rowling to create the saga. Both tours are considered among the best excursions from London.

To end the day, near Leadenhall is the Sky Garden, one of the best viewpoints in London, which is also free, although you have to book on their official website just when they release tickets, every 2 weeks, as they sell out very quickly. There you can have dinner or a nightcap with fantastic views of London.
If there are no seats or you want better views, you can visit The Shard, the best viewpoint in London. A good option is to book tickets in advance, which allow you flexible access on the day of your visit.
