What would Christmas be without the romantic comedy 'The Holiday' starring Cameron Diaz and Jude Law? The film is set partly in southern England, and some of the picturesque locations can actually be visited.

Outside, it's dark, cold, and unpleasant - the couch is calling your name. Was there ever a better time to watch the 2006 romantic Christmas film 'The Holiday'? The romantic comedy is about two women disillusioned by love.

Amanda, played by Cameron Diaz, lives in Los Angeles and wants to get away. Iris, played by Kate Winslet, feels the same way in England. The two women arrange a home exchange online. Amanda meets Iris's brother in England, played by Jude Law, and Iris gets to know a coworker of Amanda's (Jack Black). The love stories unfold, but not without obstacles.

A few of the film's locations were created just for the movie, but there are places in southern England that fans can actually visit.

The Cozy Cottage in the Countryside: 'Rosehill Cottage'

The 'Rosehill Cottage' from the movie 'The Holiday' unfortunately doesn't exist, but there's a cottage in Surrey that looks very similar.

The quaint cottage where Kate Winslet, as Iris, lives was unfortunately only a set built by the film crew. However, the cozy 'Rosehill Cottage' was inspired by a real cottage.

The 'Honeysuckle Cottage' is located in the small village of Holmbury Saint Mary in Surrey, southern England, and looks quite similar to the house in 'The Holiday'. In 2018, it was on the market for nearly 715,000 euros and was sold a year later for 685,000 euros. Click on the image to the right to see the original:

Weddings at Cornwell Manor

During one of their dates, Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Graham (Jude Law) visit Cornwell Manor, a large estate in Chipping Norton. The town is about 30 kilometers from Oxford in southern England. You can't just visit the manor, but you can rent it for events. Many couples have their weddings there.

Grab a Beer at 'The White Horse'

Amanda and Graham spend their first date at 'The White Horse', a pub in Shere. The small village in Guildford is also in Surrey, southern England. The pub's interior was not changed for filming. The small bar and cozy fireplace fit perfectly with the romantic scene in the film. By the way, a photo of the scene now hangs on the pub's wall.

Shere is somewhat of a mini Hollywood for romantic comedies, as parts of 'Four Weddings and a Funeral', 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason', and 'Wedding Date' were also filmed there.

Shopping in Snowy Godalming

When Amanda arrives in England, she drives to a quaint, snowy little town. This scene was shot in Godalming, a small town in Surrey with around 20,000 residents.

However, a lot of artificial snow was needed for filming. And the supermarket where Amanda did her shopping was actually a candle shop.
