At these seven open-air festivals, not only will your hips be swaying, but the locations in the natural beauty of Germany also bring on a vacation vibe during summer 2023.

Dance barefoot on the beach, chill in hammocks, meditate in a green setting, or take a refreshing dip in a nearby lake: These festivals in Germany offer comforts that instantly put you in vacation mode.

Whether large events or hidden gems, we present the jewels of the festival season from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to Bavaria. Choose your favorite celebration spot in Germany.

1. Meeresrausch Festival on Usedom, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

With views of the water and surrounded by nature, you can enjoy electronic sounds, watch sunsets, or follow soap bubbles at the small Meeresrausch Festival in Peenemünde on Usedom. With about 1,000 expected attendees, the festival is manageable. It's casual on the four small floors - and remarkably relaxed.

Visual highlights await even in the darkness: at night, the glowing tree decorations create an almost fairytale atmosphere. And if you want peace and quiet, leave the festival grounds and take a break at the nearby dream beach of Peenemünde.

Tickets for the Meeresrausch Festival from June 5th to June 18th, 2023, cost 157 euros.

2. Summerjam in Cologne

A bit of Caribbean flair is offered at the Summerjam in Cologne in the recreation area around Fühlinger Lake. Camping and celebrating to reggae rhythms and hip-hop, and cooling off in the lake make everyday life quickly forgotten. This is exactly how a festival should feel.

Under this year's motto 'The Spirit of Peace', about 30,000 fans are expected from June 30th to July 2nd, 2023. The 2023 lineup includes, among others, Peter Fox, Popcaan, and Trettmann. In addition to music, the offerings include a chill-out area, galleries, and workshops. The three-day festival ticket, including camping, costs around 160 euros.

3. Sea-You Festival at Tunisee, Baden-Württemberg

You can't resist the summer feeling at the Sea-You Festival near Freiburg. The festival grounds are directly on Tunisee, and the cool water is part of the festival concept. Not without reason, the event is also called Beach Republic.

Here you can relax on the inflatable pelican and listen to the music on stage, go waterskiing, or chill in daybeds on the beach.

The electronic festival between the Kaiserstuhl and Schwarzwald attracts about 40,000 fans and offers 150 acts on seven stages, including Charlotte de Witte and Alle Farben.

If you want to attend, act fast. For the event from July 14th to July 16th, 2023, only remaining tickets are available in different categories.

4. Sonnemondsterne in Saalburg-Ebersdorf, Thuringia

Lying in the white sand on the beach and listening to international top acts is possible at this music event. Located picturesquely at the fjord-like Bleilochtalsperre, the Sonnemondsterne Festival welcomes its attendees from August 11th to August 13th, 2023, to mostly electronic music.

One of the eight stages is directly on the bathing beach, and of course, a beach bar completes the vacation feeling. The more than 40,000 attendees this year anticipate headliners like Armin van Buuren and Paul Kalbrenner.

A special feature: Campsites categorized by noise level from loud to quiet help find the right spot. Festival tickets cost 169 euros, excluding camping.

5. Feel Festival at Lake Bergheider, Brandenburg

Indie, electronic, rock, and hip-hop: The Feel Festival features a cross-genre lineup and a basis in tolerance. Here, everyone is welcome. Camping on the sand beach, collective skinny dipping, and welcoming the sunrise over the water while lying in hammocks-all of this is part of this musical summer event from July 13th to July 17th, 2023.

The names of the bands and live acts are only announced shortly before the festival starts. However, the festival definitely takes place against the beautiful backdrop of Lake Bergheider. Tickets are available for 189 euros, and people with disabilities pay 45 euros.

6. Nation of Godwana in Grünefeld, Brandenburg

What could evoke a stronger vacation feeling than a parallel world? Creating this is the goal of the organizers of the Nation of Godwana festival. Since 1993, people have danced to electronic beats in the area surrounding Berlin. The organizers say on the website that they 'invite you to ecstatic self-abandonment on the meadow in Grünefeld'.

Around 10,000 dance enthusiasts answered the call in 2022 and celebrated surrounded by woods, meadows, and gravel lakes. From July 21st to July 23rd, 2023, it's happening again, with tickets costing about 200 euros each.

7. Klangtherapie at Plankenfels, Bavaria

It gets electronic at the Klangtherapie Festival somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Bavaria. Between small forests and cornfields near Plankenfels in the Franconian Switzerland, people dance for four days in a more intimate setting. With about 3,000 attendees, the festival is still considered an insider tip, featuring talents from the region and up-and-coming artists on stage.

The family-friendly Klangtherapie Festival offers a daily kids' space. Besides techno and electronic music, you can dive into other realms through discussions, readings, workshops, theater, and yoga. The organizers aim to provide a weekend for body, soul, mind, and heart.

From August 3rd to August 6th, 2023, it returns. A standard ticket costs 150 euros.
