Although Zakynthos is only 40 kilometers long and 20 kilometers wide, there are numerous beaches to choose from. Whether you're looking for long stretches of sand or hidden coves, we showcase the most beautiful beaches on Zakynthos.

One of the most popular and largest beaches on Zakynthos is located in the south of the island. Laganas Beach stretches for nine kilometers and offers everything you need for a perfect vacation: soft sand, crystal-clear water, sun umbrellas, loungers, and plenty of space for everyone. Additionally, there's a strong focus on water sports such as windsurfing, jet skiing, and sailing.

Laganas Beach is also one of the six beaches on Zakynthos where loggerhead turtles lay their eggs. You can often discover turtle nesting sites. Moreover, Laganas is famous for its vibrant nightlife. There are numerous bars and restaurants where you can party to your heart's content.

Kalamaki Beach

Kalamaki Beach is located east of Laganas Beach, with a large pine forest separating the two resort areas. This fine sandy beach is suitable for everyone because it essentially has two sections: the lively area near the hotels and the quieter end where a mountain almost touches the water, offering a peaceful environment.

Throughout the area, there are wooden and metal structures because loggerhead turtles also nest here. Visitors should be cautious and maintain a safe distance to protect the animals. Kalamaki's main street offers supermarkets, bakeries, cafés, and restaurants.

Gerakas Beach on Zakynthos is one of the most important nesting sites for sea turtles.

On the southeastern part of the island, Gerakas Beach stretches like a crescent along the coast, ending at a small hill that extends into the sea. Located on the Vasilikos peninsula, the beach captivates with its fine sand and clear, azure waters. The water is shallow, making it safe for small children to swim.

Above the beach, there are kiosks and shops. Gerakas Beach is one of the most important nesting sites for turtles, with many fenced-off nests. Therefore, access to the beach is prohibited at night.

Dafni Beach

Another secluded beach lies on the southwest coast of Vasilikos. Dafni Beach is situated in a nature reserve because loggerhead turtles use it as a nesting ground in summer. It can only be reached by a narrow road and is relatively deserted as a result.

The beach is part of the National Marine Park, and certain sections are therefore off-limits. The beach's cove and surroundings are a paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts and underwater fans. There are small tavernas on-site where you can stop for a meal.

Navagio Beach in the northwest part of the island is one of Greece's most famous beaches. Located in what is known as Smugglers Cove, lies one of the most iconic sights on Zakynthos: the wreck of a smuggling ship. Hence, the bay is also called Shipwreck Bay or Shipwreck Beach. In 1980, the 'Panagiotis' was pursued by the Coast Guard, crashed, and ran aground during a storm.

The beach is known for its exceptionally bright sand and impressive cliffs that surround it. The water turns a vivid blue due to sulfur released during high tides from the many grottos in the area. The cove is only accessible by boat.

Limnionas Beach

A wonderful place for a swim is on the island's western coast: the hidden Limnionas Bay lies nestled between cliffs and bizarre rocks. There is no traditional beach, but clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling.

The best access to the beach is from the small mountain village of Agios Leon. From there, follow the signs and drive for several kilometers along a paved road that ends at a large parking lot. You can reach the water via a small jetty or the rocks at the bay's edge.

Xigia Sulfur Beach

On the northeast part of the island lies Xigia Sulfur Beach, which holds a special significance for the island's residents. The water is said to have healing properties, enriched by a sulfur spring located in a nearby cave. The high natural sulfur content gives the water its distinct clarity and brightness.

The location is also unique: the small beach is surrounded by cliffs in a picturesque cove, providing a stunning backdrop. Adventurous visitors can swim into an underwater grotto and immerse themselves in the sulfur-rich waters.

Makris Gialos Beach

Makris Gialos Beach on the island's east coast is also regarded as a paradise for divers and snorkelers. With extremely clear water shimmering in various hues and high cliffs surrounding the beach, it is considered one of Zakynthos's postcard-perfect vistas.

Makris Gialos Beach offers a mix of sand and pebbles. The water deepens quickly, attracting many vacationers for diving and snorkeling because the underwater visibility is excellent. Visitors with children should definitely bring floaties.

Banana Beach

One of the most popular beaches on Zakynthos: Banana Beach on the island's southeastern coast.

Located on Zakynthos's southeastern coast, Banana Beach is the longest beach on the island. It is easily and quickly accessible from the town center of Vassilikos. The beach is considered young and hip, thanks to the numerous beach bars and extensive sports offerings, including banana boats, parasailing, water skiing, beach volleyball, and much more.

The mild slope of the water also makes it a favorite for families. The sand is wide, making it perfect for building sandcastles or digging holes. A large area is lined with tavernas and beach bars, often hosting parties, live music, and DJs.

Tsilivi Beach

On the island's north, the small resort town of Tsilivi is home to its namesake beach. Families with children often visit because of the gradually sloping waters and fine, golden sands. There's plenty on offer: numerous watersport activities and many restaurants and bars lining the beach promenade.

Like Kalamaki, Laganas, Argassi, and Alykes, Tsilivi is a typical tourist destination that has been developed in recent years. In addition to hotels, restaurants, and shops, there's entertainment such as bowling, mini-golf, and even a water park. However, it can become quite crowded during the summer months.

Alykes Beach and Alykanas Beach

On the west coast, about 18 kilometers from Zakynthos town, are the sister beaches of Alykes and Alykanas. Alykes is a typical tourist village with hotels, vacation apartments, restaurants, pubs, shops, and is popular due to its extensive bay with bright sandy beach.

Over time, Alykes merged with another village, Alykanas. The villages are connected by a sandy beach and together form a large tourist town with various leisure activities. The water entry is gentle and shallow, and there are numerous sun loungers and umbrellas.
