Makover brewing for downtown neighborhoods
A local newspaper editorial strongly supports form-based codes that are under development. Some excerpts:
"The City of Bradenton’s pursuit of a brave new design world to guide redevelopment of downtown neighborhoods looks promising. By ditching conventional land-use zoning in favor of a form-based code, currently under development, the city will encourage a more appealing and cohesive design of buildings, landscapes and streets."
"The city went about this entire process wisely -- with community input. First, one of the three planning consultants the city hired -- Dover, Kohl & Partners Town Planning -- engaged the public in an exercise, asking residents to redesign downtown utilizing form-based code principles. Since the code will cover Bradenton’s three Community Redevelopment Areas and the nearby neighborhoods of Point Pleasant and Old Manatee Village, workshop participants placed their visions of the future on maps of those places."
