The Village People - J.D. & Jeff

J.D. Recobs and Jeff Appleton, seniors at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, are working on a development that is an extension of the town.

"Five years ago, J.D. Recobs and Jeff Appleton visited campus for the first time on the same day. A year later, they were roommates in Martin Hall and teammates on the lacrosse field.

"Now in their senior year at Hendrix, they are both interns at The Village at Hendrix, a New Urbanist neighborhood adjacent to campus."

The Village, based on a plan by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, is being developed by the college. 'With New Urbanism, there’s something for everybody and it encourages people to get out, to be social and be active,' Appleton said.

"Through his internship in The Village, Appleton sees the individual parts of his interdisciplinary degree coming together.

" 'All aspects of my degree work in this, from environmental science to sociology and policy,' he said.
